A Time of Thanks

Hello fellow intreped colonists of dekeTown. Colleen here, filling in on newsletter duties while Deke finishes up the latest book.

It's that time of year when the weather changes, the days grow short, and life turns inward. The time of year when the cold and rain bring actual marching ants into the kitchen to make their very own "selection" around a grease spot on the counter. The time to put away the ice cubes and devise ways to drink bourbon that involve coffee mugs and aromatic spices. The time when it's nice to just stay inside by the glow of the monitor and write books about the classic theme of Photoshop Channels and Masks. And it's also the time when we in the States take a day (well, really it turns into a four-day weekend) to reflect on what we are thankful for:  Read more »

Chuck Joiner Interviews Me Again

First of all, I have to say, Chuck Joiner of MacVoices.com is a gem. If you haven't heard of him, you got to check out his site. Because the guy is the most congenial, warm-hearted, patient host you could hope for. And his list of interviewees reads like a who's who of the Mac community.

In my case, he's content to say about three words and listen to me rattle on like a mental patient for one 70,000-word sentence, and then act like I said something insightful and ask his next question.

If nothing else, it's a wonderful experiment in word conservation. Chuck makes his extremely wise points in as few words as possible, and I make no point whatsoever using up as many words as I can possibly utter without punctuation.

Based on this podcast, my favorite words include: "Uh," "um," "we-a," "but-a-but," "the the," and "and and." You owe it to yourself to check it out, if only because freakish things peak your curiosity. Read more »

 I know, I should be cool about this. But I just can't.

Me psyched about CS4? After months of watching and waiting as the featuresets build, I'm more excited about telling you what I think than anything else.

 Just a quick note to let everyone know that, while this would normally be a dekePod week, this particular week is not a dekePod week. That week is next week. Specifically, September 23, which will feature a first glimpse at Photoshop CS4.
